The FAA-Certified all glass cockpit has been high on MD’s list of developments, as was noted by their presser at the 2017 HAI Heli-Expo in Dallas, Texas. In June of this year, MD announced it had completed all FAA certification requirements for the 600N cockpit upgrade. On July 26 of this year, the type certification was granted and MD’s single-engine all-glass cockpits will now feature:

·         Howell Instruments Electronic Flight Instrument System

·         Garmin G500 (GDU620) PFD/MFD

·         Garmin GTN 650 Touchscreen NAV/COM/GPS

·         L-3 ESI 500 Electronic Standby Instrument

Apart from the new glass cockpit, the 600N is known for its flexibility in terms of reconfigurability. With the ability to support up to six different cabin configurations and in this aircraft’s case, the ability to quickly transition between three of the options to meet the mission requirements of the task at hand. In this 600N’s particular case, that will be the transition between utility/personnel transport and  Emergency Medical/Air Ambulance Services. When in the utility/personnel transport configuration, the MD 600N is capable of seating up to five via a three-passenger front bench and two aft mounted club seats. The bench seat is reversible to allow forward or aft-facing orientation depending on mission requirements.

When configured in the EMS/Air Ambulance operation, the MD600N utilizes a single patient transport Air Ambulance Technologies interior which is equipped with a monitor/defibrillator, ventilator, suction unit, and two 5Liter 200 bar oxygen cylinders to treat and monitor the patient.
